The Department of Computer Science and Engineering is introducing BTech CSE with a specialisation in Quantum Computing in AI, a 4-year undergraduate programme starting 2025-2026. The programme is designed to offer students a deep understanding of quantum computing and its applications in Artificial Intelligence (AI). Students will learn the foundations of quantum mechanics, AI and machine learning algorithms, quantum natural language processing and how to merge these fields for cutting-edge innovations in technology.
The programme is structured to provide both theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience through seven programme electives that include the basics of quantum computing, algorithms and programming for quantum computing, quantum machine learning- I and II, quantum deep learning, quantum image processing, and quantum natural language processing.
The programme aims to equip students with in-depth theoretical knowledge and practical skills in quantum computing, artificial intelligence (AI), and their integration, enabling them to design and implement hybrid AI-quantum solutions. Through workshops, seminars, and hands-on training using industry-standard tools such as Qiskit, TensorFlow Quantum, IBM Q Experience, Microsoft Quantum Development Kit, and PyTorch, students are prepared for successful industry careers. Emphasis is placed on fostering research and innovation through real-world projects and interdisciplinary applications, while also developing critical soft skills like effective communication, teamwork, and problem-solving. Guided by experienced faculty, certified trainers, and industry professionals, the programme ensures holistic development, inspires lifelong learning, and prepares students to excel as leaders in the evolving fields of quantum computing and AI.
Quantum Computing is designed to prepare students for significant advancements in their professional and academic journeys by fostering skills that lead to job growth in emerging technological fields. Graduates are equipped to excel in specialised roles such as quantum algorithm developers, quantum hardware engineers, and quantum AI researchers, meeting the increasing demand for experts in this niche domain.
By mastering advanced concepts and tools, students are positioned for salary increases as organisations recognise their expertise in leveraging cutting-edge quantum computing solutions. The programme emphasises research impact, encouraging participants to contribute to groundbreaking discoveries and innovations that address real-world challenges. Furthermore, students are exposed to opportunities for global collaborations, connecting with international professionals and institutions to drive advancements in quantum computing.
The entrepreneurial component of the programme empowers students with the knowledge and confidence to establish startups or join ventures focusing on quantum technologies, fostering innovation and economic growth. Ultimately, the programme cultivates a new generation of quantum computing professionals ready to lead in academia, industry, and entrepreneurship.
The programme focuses on developing expertise in advanced computing by equipping students with the knowledge to harness the power of quantum computing for solving complex computational challenges, especially in AI-driven applications. A strong emphasis on security prepares graduates to address emerging threats in quantum cryptography and secure communication, ensuring robust systems capable of withstanding quantum-based attacks. Students gain proficiency in algorithm development, enabling them to design quantum algorithms tailored to enhance artificial intelligence processes, including quantum-enhanced machine learning and data analysis.
The integration of AI and Machine Learning within the curriculum enables students to explore and implement quantum methods that significantly improve learning efficiency, model accuracy, and scalability. The programme delves into optimisation, training students to use quantum computing for solving intricate optimisation problems prevalent in AI, logistics, and decision-making processes. Additionally, it focuses on simulation, providing the skills to model complex systems with unparalleled precision, advancing applications in fields such as material science, drug discovery, and financial modelling. By combining these core areas, the programme prepares students to be leaders in revolutionising AI through quantum computing innovations.
