CELEBRATION OF SAMVIDHAN DIVAS

The School of Law, NorthCap University celebrated the ‘Samvidhan Divas’ on 26th November 2021 to commemorate 72 years of the adoption of the Constitution of India.

The event witnessed the presence of Professor (Dr.) Nupur Prakash, Vice Chancellor of the NorthCap University; Professor (Dr.) Prem Vrat, Pro-chancellor, The Northcap University; Col. Vikram Mohanty, Registrar; Professor (Dr.) Manjula Batra, Professor, School of Law and Dr. Archana Sarma, Head, School of Law along with all faculty members across different departments and students.

In 2015, Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi marked 26th November as the Constitution Day of India as part of a year-long celebration of the 125th birth anniversary of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. Constitution Day of India aims to raise awareness on the importance of the Indian Constitution and its principal architects. Being mindful of this objective, the School of Law commenced the event with the reading of the Preamble.

The audience rose to the occasion and a pledge of the preamble was taken. The pledge was led by Ms. Arushi Anthwal, Assistant Professor, School of Law. For this purpose, a copy of the preamble along with the calendar of new year was distributed amongst all faculty members.

The idea of celebrating the Samvidhan Divas is inconceivable without setting context, reiterating history and a revival of the Constitutional values.  Professor (Dr.) Manjula Batra shared her expertise on the subject to offer the much needed context and vigour required  for  this celebration. Professor Batra spoke about the origin story of the making of the Constitution and highlighted the importance of the fundamental rights guaranteed under Part III of the Constitution of India. Ma’am spoke eloquently about the importance of Rule of Law, Separation of Powers as well as Principles of Natural Justice.

Poetry is when an emotion has found its thought and the thought has found its words. In that spirit, the Samvidhan Divas celebrations witnessed the recitation of a self-composed poem by Vishesh Gandhi, Student, School of Law, 2019 Batch. Vishesh’s moving and impactful poem was titled “Bharat ka wo Samvidhan hun Main”

The celebrations were concluded with a melodious duet by the ‘Encore’ members Shweta and Priya. After the Constitution was passed, the historic session of the Constituent Assembly ended with the singing of the National Anthem. In tune with history, the audience rose in union for the National Anthem to mark the end of the programme.

Faculty coordinator for the event was Ms. Arushi Anthwal, Assistant Professor, School of Law.
